Having finally downloaded all the photos from my camera here are the ones from my recent trip to Seaworld. Having lived in Brisbane for 10 years its surprising I hadn’t been before. Saw all their shows, the Ski show, the seal show and the dolphins as well as all the other aquatic exhibits.

I went to a Steven Wright performance a couple of weeks ago. Its the first time he has performed in Australia for 8 years. He was out here headlining for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. When I last saw him in Brisbane I was about halfway up the balcony that time. This time I was lucky enough to be in the 5th row from the front. Close enough to see him working hard to keep his composure and not laugh with the audience.

His style is a mixture of deadpan/not quite here. I’m sure most people are familiar with quotes of him, whether or not they know he authored them. He performed for over 90 minutes straight without interval. As most of his material is one liners he told about 270-300 jokes in that period. Now thats value for joke money.

Rather then repeat some more of his material (go see his show!) I’ll repeat part of his Oscar acceptance speech for the short film “The Appointments of Dennis Jennings” which he co-wrote.

“Thank you for this award. I’m just glad we decided to cut the other 65 minutes from it.”

So in mid March everyone got together to celebrate another year of Emily. Dinner was at Tomato Brothers with a followup dessert of Gelati in the Valley. We were going to go to a “Dessert Only Restaurant” but being a Saturday night we were going to have to wait 45 minutes to get a table. Having never been or even heard of a dessert only restuarant it is something I now will have to try.

Photos are finally up. I couldn’t find my camera transfer cable until today so it took a while for them to go up. You could probably read that as “I hadn’t looked for my camera transfer cable until now.” I needed to transfer the photos off for this weekends holiday in Perth.

So I call the bank to redeem some reward points for a David Jones voucher. After I have made my selection the conversation went something like this:

Them: So you’re happy to proceed in purchasing the voucher?
John: Yes
Them: Would you like this sent to your home address?
John: Can I get it sent to …
Them: Actually no, I can only send it to your home address.
John: Umm. That’s an unusual question to ask then.

I was thinking of a Steven Wright joke I heard just the night before but couldn’t bring myself to do it. The exchange goes something like this.

I like to mess with store clerks when I go shopping. I go in and they ask me:
“Can I help you?”
“Do you have anything I like?”
“What the hell does that mean?”
“Look you started it”
