Pranking

I was at a friends place a couple of Friday nights ago watching movies. Whilst watching, one of his sisters was heading out and wanted to borrow a mobile phone to “prank” one of her friends. I was curious at what pranking meant to one of the young people of today but I ended up being disappointed.
Here is what the considered a prank to be: Borrowing a phone from someone to call your friend and hang up before they answer the call. Then because your friend does not know the number the call came from they have to call them back to figure out who the call came from and what they want. If you ask me this form of pranking must of been started by the telephone companies. I bet they are laughing at the prank all the way to your monthly bill. Coincidently that night I had my own phone “prank” but unfortunately it didn’t pan out…

8 Random Facts

So the Kirstin part of johnandkirstin.com tagged me with this 8 random facts thing. The rules:
- Each player must post these rules to begin the meme.
- Each player starts with eight random facts or habits about themselves.
- People who get tagged must blog about their eight things and post these rules.
At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names. Apparently a rule change that says do it if you like or if you want to be awesome like me.
- Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.
So without further ado here are 8 random facts:
- Up until a week ago I had no idea how to play minesweeper correctly.
- I help people come up with random facts about themselves that they can put in their blogs to answer those “please give us 8 random facts about yourselves” posts.
- I’ve played music in front of a crowd 2,500 people.
- I have been using the words “awesome”, “awesomeness” and “awesomeness-ness” too much lately. Its awesome.
- This post has been delayed so it would make sense following John and Kirstin’s posting. I often start posts but never finish them. The oldest post I still have in draft and not published is from March 2005 and it was a movie review of Timeline. In summary: read the book, the movie sucks.
- I have a couple of long term goals. One is to get a foot bridge named after me and the other is to become Governor General. I feel its important to have things to strive towards.
- I don’t like eating carrots. Ironically, I enjoy drinking a tropical fruit/vegetable juice that is 27% carrot juice and carrot coloured.
- I don’t always tell the truth in random fact posts about myself. I like to leave you wondering…
VB Party 2007

Another year, another company birthday party. As always a lot of fun. Had just bought a new camera a couple of weeks before so there are lots of pictures of me and different people. This year the theme was “Las Vegas” so that is why I was wearing a playing card for half the night. We had a whole deck of 52 cards. Unfortunately due to poor planning and trying to co-ordinate 52 people there are no photos of the entire card deck.
The mystery band this year was Evermore, a New Zealand band that is pretty popular. I don’t think it suited the party that well because they weren’t very much of a “party band”, mainly playing their own stuff. They did a couple of covers but still not that danceable.
The new camera is a Canon Ixus 70. I had previously owned a Powershot. (not sure of the model) The camera takes a rechargable battery so it is a lot smaller then the powershot. I like the size of the camera a lot. It fits easily into your pocket. Its quick to turn on and take pictures and the auto focus does a good job. The face recognition is just cool, it will actually track peoples faces as they move about the frame. The one down size is that it does perform a little worse in low light conditions then the Powershot with the flash off. It has a much harder time focusing and the pictures tend to come out blurrier. I haven’t played around with any of the ISO film speed settings yet.
Embarrassing Phone Problems

I got a new mobile phone
Its the new Blackberry Curve. An upgrade of the older one. The embarrassing thing is they have gotten rid of the “go back” button which used to be on the side. Its been replaced with the camera button. I press it all the time out of habit as it was one of the two main buttons.
So in meetings when I’m using it every now and then I forget that its no longer there and I end up taking photos of my lap. That wouldn’t be so bad if the flash didn’t go off and it made the camera shutter sound. I keep wondering what people think. If a lot of people stare I know what I am going to say, “Don’t worry, its OK, my doctor told me to take a picture every time it happened”
