Out and About
I was out and about last week, firstly in Sydney for the week then in Melbourne for the weekend. Sydney was for the aforementioned Gartner Symposium. It was a good conference. Picked up a few new ideas and reinforced a few things about work and my role that I had been thinking about..
Read on for more details about what else I got up to.

I am out and about in Sydney this week at the Gartner Symposium. So don’t expect any posts. I’m stuck on dialup and its just too painful to use. Yes feel free to point out that I am currently using dialup to post this post, so it can’t be that painful.
What happened to all the Posts?

Well my daily posts didn’t last a month. I think today would of made it a month since I started posted daily (or more then once a day) What happened?
Well last Saturday I missed because I ended up not being home all evening to post anything. Then after that I got sick for a few days. Ended up having a couple of days off work. Was partly my fault. I had a sore throat and the sniffles for a week but I over did it on the weekend and that gave the cold the opening it was looking for. I went to two friends combined birthday dinner. (Ended up with separate gifts) It was at Olivetto’s in Red Hill. Nice place, tasty. A few of us ended up going out for drinks and dancing afterwards. Went to the port office, then the empire, then the RG and ended up at the fringe bar before the lockout started. Ended up getting to bed about 5am. Wasn’t feeling too bad when I got up but the cold took hold that evening.
Not a lot else happened this week. More posts later…

I spent the last 6 hours eating and drinking and now I am so full. I didn’t mean to. Started off with a late lunch at 2pm at the Pig n Whistle. It had been the planning for a couple months, catching up with some former work colleges for a long “public service” (i.e. a long and possibly boozy) lunch. I had the homemade pumpkin, spinach and ricotta ravioli with walnut and gorgonzola cheese and a couple of cokes. It was very tasty if not slightly too cheesy/creamy. (I know what do I expect?) Got back to work about 4pm and the boss wanted to go out for some after work drinks. Went of to the pub formally known as the metro and had a 3 more cokes with everyone and there were some breads to share. Then at 7:30pm it moved on to Cyber City 2002 for some Chinese for dinner. Got three dishes to share and some rice. Cyber City has turned into one of the new regular lunch time haunts along side Tara Thai. Great food, great value for money sized meals. The only downside is the place just looks dodgy from the outside. Its on Wickham street in the valley but it is set back from the street in an poorly lit shopping arcade. If you didn’t know it was back there you’d just walk on by and wouldn’t think of going down there let alone eat there. I have to say, you don’t know what your missing out on.
I’m going to go lay on the lounge for a while…
Lady Beetles

Where have all the lady beetles gone?
And before you ask, no I don’t mean Yoko and the other one that is all over the news these days. I mean the ones that you see in the garden. Thinking about it, I can’t remember the last time I saw one. Can you? I’m told they all moved to England. I can’t imagine it would be for the weather. After doing some quick research it looks like that “moved to England” isn’t as a crack pot idea as I first thought it was. If you believe the Cheshire Wildlife Trust, the Harlequin lady beetles have been invading there en mass leaving a trail of wanton destruction in their path. Well maybe that last bit, but it makes it sound better doesn’t it?
If you are so inclined, you can take part in tracking their movements via this survey site.
A friend gave me todays topic to write about. I was a bit stuck for ideas today because it hasn’t been that exciting.
