What to do when you get a new monitor? Find some new images to use as desktop backgrounds. The new monitor is running at 1920×1200 and the secondary is 1280×1024. I haven’t yet figured out if I can have the one desktop background stretched across both monitors in Vista and find some really high resolution, wide screen images so I settled on finding images to fit the new monitor and let windows centre them on the secondary. I was told to check out UltraMon but it does not yet work correctly in Vista. (Things not working right in Vista could be a few posts in themselves
– After doing a little searching I found a bunch of to my liking on InterfaceLIFT. They have lots, 1,359 to be precise at this point in time. I thought I would share some:
Below are the “lone tree” pictures.
I’m not sure why I like pictures of lone trees. It didn’t even click that there is another at the top of the blog when I downloaded them, only when putting this post together. The first one is my current favorite. Maybe I like them because its the contrast of vertical objects to the horizontal background regardless of how ridiculous they are. I also downloaded the usual selection of landscapes, roadscapes, animals and well known locations.
While browsing I also decided I needed more orange on the desktop. Not many photos in white but I’m not big on white backgrounds. They are too bright when you turn a monitor on in the middle of the night in the dark or first thing in the morning. Of course there was the collection of computer generated images. Surprisingly only three space related and a motivational message. (Details) We all could use this one now and then. I’m thinking about setting it as my desktop background at work.
The biggest category of images downloaded, which I’m slightly embarrassingly about, is flowers. (I know, let the mocking begin) Flowers taken up close with macro modes or from weird perspectives. It probably has something to do with the best picture I have ever taken is of some flowers taken in macro mode from an odd perspective. I was going to link to it, but its just not in the same league as the rest of these images. I do like weird perspective photos. A couple of my current favorites for those too lazy to click on the dozens of links I’ve posted:
All up ended up downloading 226 images from their site to use as wallpapers. I’m using a Vista gadget called Desktop Wallpaper to change my background randomly every few hours. I was thinking of modifying it to upload a thumbnail of the current background to the sidebar on the blog but thats about as far I got with that idea before the motivation ran out…so far.
Anyone recommend other good websites to get high resolution desktop wallpapers from? Preferably ones where I can automatically filter out images that are of the resolution I am interested in.
I wouldn’t of thought anything about you liking flower pictures until you pointed it out …
… but now you mention it that is a little effeminate
Lone tree pics… does that mean you see yourself as a solitary individual, steadfast in your foundations? ![]()
