During 1998 I was lucky enough to have Homer linked off the SNPP website generating over 50,000 visits the information page.
Name: Homer
Version: 1.3
System Requirements: Windows 95/98, VB5 Runtime DLL, Soundcard
Description:
Homer is your desktop companion. His eyes follow the cursor around the screen and will react to you when you move the mouse over him. Homer can be set to speak things at user definable intervals.
Homer’s speech set are fully customisable and not only being able to select what homer says you can add your own sounds to Homer. The read me file details on this.
Homer is based on the Macintosh program Homer Pro! by Richard Salter and John Dalgliesh. Unfortunately they no longer distribute it but you may be lucky enough to find it on a info-mac mirror.
All sounds are copyrighted by FOX

Version 1.3 adds new sounds and better error checking for missing files.
Version 1.2 implements a workaround for the rare bug the occurs that sometimes the popup menu in the system tray does not work. You can now right click in the Homer window to activate the menu. (You can also turn this off in the Settings)
Known Problems:
- When Homer is talking he might not respond to mouse clicks in the Homer properties and customising windows.
- Speech might not sync with mouth movements if your machine is under heavy use.
- See the read me file for more details.
Notes:
- Extract the files using paths.
- The first time you run it Homer is set not to say anything. You have to enable speaking by clicking Properties -> customise from the icon in the system tray then selecting the things you want Homer to say.
- See the read me file for more details.
